Welcome to Nomadic Chameleon Missions website, which will serve as a virtual brochure for my mission work in Kenya.

I’ve heard it said that life begins at 40. This saying may indeed be a way for those of us stepping into a new phase of life to “lighten the blow,” but I truly believe that my life, if not beginning, is definitely and finally headed in the right direction.

“You will know your vocation by the joy that it brings you. You will know. You will know when it’s right.” – Dorothy Day

And I do. This is right. I am exactly where I belong. I received a very direct call to do this work.

Grace King’atua, founder of Wezesha By Grace, and her husband the Reverend John King’atua told me in February of 2008 that they had been praying for someone to come help them with their growing faith-based non-profit and God had answered their prayers with my name.

To say that I was stunned and humbled is an understatement. They also told me that working with them would mean raising my own support. The idea did not at first appeal to me, in fact I tried every possible way to find paid employment in Kenya so as to help Grace and John at least part-time but not have to raise support. That however was not God’s plan and he soon made it very clear that I would have to swallow my pride and put my fears aside and do the one thing I dread the most… fundraising.

So I did what comes naturally to someone with a background in journalism – research. I started reading everything I could get my hands on about missionaries and mission support raising. And I learned something very important… this isn’t about me. Being a missionary isn’t a solo job. You can’t do it alone. You need partners, who were referred to in one book I read as senders. People who pray for you and the mission, people who volunteer to do logistics while you are in the field and people who have a heart for mission who would like to do what you do but whose paths have gone in another direction and who can offer the one thing that makes all of this possible – money.

The other thing I did is pray. I prayed for God’s grace and peace and blessings.

So far He has blessed me with friends like Hal (pastor, friend, sounding-board) and Betsy (photographer) and Greg (web guru) whose support has made this website possible. You will find links for them in the sidebar. If you need the services they provide, please know that they have my highest recommendations.

Please prayerfully consider partnering with me on this journey!

Peace & Blessings,

“Umeniwezesha” is Swahili for “You empower me.”

This music video was made as a way for the beneficiaries of Wezesha By Grace to participate in the fundraising effort to support them. The children in the video are all part of Wezesha’s education program. The Maasai villagers in the video participate in Wezesha’s Outreach Program in their village. Some attend the adult literacy program other participate in the He-goat project.

The video was made possible by generous contribution from Joe Nyagah, Pastor Rhymes, Teddy B, Paul Nyamai and Tracklab.

Most of the praise must go to God, for the many small miracles that made this video possible!
